So how've you been? You look well. Have you been working out? Me? Well a bunch of little things mostly. I know, I know.
Well for starters I've been studying for the GMAT. Okay that's more of an excuse than anything. I probably haven't spent more than 10 hours on it yet, but I've spent a lot of time contemplating studying for it. That does have to count for something right? Then, there's the job application process, the preparation for my show last weekend, the trip to Vegas, the winter olympics, spring training, you know busy busy.
Okay truly to get you up to speed I have been spending a bit of time working on various projects. Project number one will appear on here shortly. I was able to transfer old cassette tapes of the Danny James show from the summer of 2001, a mediocre minus free form radio show I did for a mediocre minus radio station here in LA.
Project number two was the writing of a new song/perparing myself for the performance. It had been a good 4 months since I had stepped foot onto a stage and probably hadn't played guitar in about as long as well. I wrote a new piece entitled "Not Enough" that I hope to record in the next week or two at work and put up on here.
Project three which is a lot less exciting to all of you has been the career based work (studying for GMAT, integrating some changes at work, looking around for other opportunities). That's enough about that anyway.
Moving on. I have praised them in the past but probably not as much as I should have. Muse is an incredibly versitile band that creates some of the most haunting melodies I've ever heard. Their simplicity makes their emotional drive so much more piercing and I celebrate their entire body of work.
Vegas. Wow was that a crazy time. 13 hours in the car, 11 hours of sleep over three nights, 7 people from work, uncountable amounts of drinking and gambling, 3 sunrises, 2 poker tournaments, and Brian hit on 1 mom. That town never fails to amuse.
Oscars. The awards are this weekend and I remain far behind in my viewing duties. I, at this time, am unwilling to make any predictions based on the fact that I have yet to see Walk the Line, Capote, and Munich. But I will state that the nominations are disappointing and that Millions and Cinderella Man both deserved more attention and best picture consideration.
I'll leave you with this thought. Shawshank Redemption failed to win the 1994 best picture oscar. Also not quite getting the job done were Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, and Four Weddings and a Funeral. Winning it, Forrest Gump. All of these films are absolute classics and well worth viewing. This just goes to show you that some years (see '94) are significantly better than others.
