My voice is still on vacation without my permission, but I'm hoping it returns by Thursday. With illness and busy schedules taken into account tonight became my first night off in quite awhile. So I decided to take advantage of my freedom and treat myself to a movie. I decided on an afterwork showing of "Lost in Translation." Though it was not mainstream at all in its content the portrayl of the emotions of loneliness and love was thourough and easy to connect to. That juxtaposed (my favorite film word) with its setting of Tokyo helped build a strong connection to me, myself, and I.
I also got a chance to enjoy MNF Bears v. Packers. At least it was enjoyable for about 3 minutes. Man the Bears have started to fall apart.
Tomorrow will be guitars, accoustic and electric, recorded back in Half Moon. Thursday night we will finish up with keys and vocals(if I'm able to sing ever again). The demos sound great so if I never find my voice again I'll be mostly satisfied, but I'd prefer to really rock out at the ProStudio.
Sounds like the Bears just did something, so back to the TV. Later Folks.
Short entry because I'm tired and still ill. Today went well just wasn't as lighting fast as I would have liked. Life in the digital age actually makes recording slower because now there is more desire for perfection since doing more than one take doesn't waste tape. Also the tape never stops to think, its ready to go.
Analog v. Digital aside, all of the drums and bass tracks are recorded and sound AMAZING!! So slow and steady builds the record. The unmixed unmastered finals should be complete by this weekend. Mixed and Mastered by the 10th of October. Thus the projected release date is Halloween. I'll keep you all in the know.
I'll tell you more about today later...
And of course I now have a cold. I'm going to attempt to drown it in liquids and sweat it out in my sleep, but it does not look good for vocal recording tomorrow. I sound like a frog, which unfortunately is not the sound I was shooting for. Maybe an overnight miracle? Wish me luck!
And though it is sad to see the White Sox season come to a close tomorrow it is nice to see that the Cubs were able to pull off winning the division. I doubt I will actually cheer for them in the playoffs, but I have to admit I am happy for them and the fans. Guess I can rip up my Vegas Sox win it all ticket.
What a way to start off 5763! For those of you who don't know, the Jewish New Year has begun. For those of you well aware of this fact, while you were enjoying your apples and honey I was finishing up my demo's in Half Moon. We now have the equivalent of a strong second draft of the album and we're ready for the pro-studio gear to get the best sound we can.
FAQ section:
What's taking so long Jeremy?
When I hired Jerry as the producer of The Goodbye Project we both agreed that we needed to take the tunes to the next level by adding full instrumentation to my accoustic guitar and vocals. Trust me folks, it is well worth the wait.
What's going on with the site?
The site will be continuing to change this weekend as Matt continues to post up his hard work. There will be scratch cuts made available from the upcoming Goodbye Project by mid-next week for your dowloadable pleasure. There will be information about the various services of Round Records available via JeremyRound.com, and so much more. So keep checking in and I'll keep you in the know.
Tonight and tomorrow will be the last days of pre-production. We will be in the "real" studio all day, and I do mean all day, Sunday. Highlights of tonight include: my first ever recorded drum playing, my first ever recorded electric guitar solo, my first ever recorded vocal brass.
This album is headed in the right direction. Get psyched! Also look forward to the 12 day countdown to album release set to begin in mid-october. Each day we will highlight one of the twelve new songs telling a bit about its background and then posting a sound sample thereof.
Goodnight
Start your business class went very well tonight. While the group attending is getting smaller, the information is getting more and more thorough and I'm starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel for the "launching" of RoundRecords.
Internship day also went pretty well. Last week I had the chance to paint a room with primer but this week things shaped up a bit:
Plus number one: No paint ended up in my eyes
Plus number two: Instead of Radiohead over and over again we listened to a bit
of everything.
Plus number three: When I did paint it was purple which is clearly more fun
than white.
Tomorrow night will be another marathon at Half Moon. Should have all the demos done and be ready to record the final takes Sunday. Wish me luck...
As time goes on you'll get to learn about the characters in my world. One such character is a young strapping gentleman named Gabe. Gabe is a close friend from college and lives in a house in LA with 3 other great friends of mine. A favorite activity of Sam's and mine is to substitute words of a song with Gabe's name. The most recent example is the Dave Matthews single Grave Digger. All you do is take the lines and alter them slightly to fit in his name: Gabe Digger when you dig my Gabe, will you make it shallow so that I can feel the Gabe. Ah the life of a songwriter.
Speaking of Dave Matthews just picked up his new album as well as John Mayer's. I'll let you know if they're any good.
Just got back from Jerry's in Half Moon Bay. For those of you who don't know, Jerry is my producer and he has this great little studio about 30 miles south of SF. Its a great place to get songs flushed out but man does time fly when we're working. Must get to bed, but the good news is the final stage of recording will begin later this week.
Goodnight.
So I never really thought about how hard making a "Professional Record" is. See one of the main problems is I am simply not used to playing with others which basically means I have developed a very bad habit of changing tempo during songs. This is no good if I want other instruments on my CD. So the solution...the metronome. Its taking some getting used to but I am developing an ear for the little click that keeps me consistant throughout the songs.
I'm also working on my kickers (industry lingo for bar by bar breakdown of the song). Though in theory you'd think I would know my songs well enough from the lyrics that I would not need such a breakdown, this is not the case. Since during recording we start with the guitar parts all I am doing is focusing on staying in tempo and playing the right notes. Well as we learned last Saturday evening in Halfmoon Bay kickerless recording results in left out bars. Left out bars means that entire sections of my songs were left out. My bad!
So its kickers and metronomes for me while I get ready for the upcoming pro-recording sessions.
Happy Fall!
Long last we have arrived!!! Now what?
Well first off let me be the first to welcome you to JeremyRound.com. This has been a brainchild of mine for sometime and I must admit I am very excited to finally be going live. Yes our beginnings will be humble, so please pardon our dust throughout this construction process.
