Los Angeles is the venue. The personages include guest star Jacki who is visiting from IL (an old friend from HS), Paul, Eric, JSwan, and whomever else decides to share this day/night with us. The Resolutions have been made and recorded. Now all thats left to do is pay hommage to 2003, get our collective drink on, and celebrate until 2004 is unveiled in its not so different at all splendor.

Well I've only been back for 48 hours and I'm having a great time, but to tell you the truth I miss my family.
For those of you who aren't clear on who I am referring to, let me clarify. Living in Phoenix are my Aunt and Uncle, my Grandmother, and a bunch of my cousins. My aunt Judy's youngest son Barry came and joined the holiday celebration with his wife Lisa and their adorable kids, Sara (4 yrs old) and Alex (5 mo's).
I arrived late Friday night and had the entire weekend to relax and catch up with my aunt and uncle. We saw a movie, did some shopping, went to a play, and all and all took it easy before the arrival of the little ones on Monday. Monday they arrived and as I previously mentioned, on Tuesday I spent a lot of quality time with little Sara. Now many of you have never had the pleasure of meeting this little girl but let me tell you a few things about her. First of all, as Cute as anyone you'll ever meet. Sharp and inquisitive. Asks really good questions and really understands quite a lot about the world around her. But still a simple sweet girl who is scared of cactus and will hold your hand and sit in your lap with a smile. Back to the review of the week.
I was able to really spend some quality time with my cousin Barry. We watched Lord of the Rings 2 and 3, discussed marriage, parenthood, the family, etc. I need to get out to see them more often. Too much time passes between meetings.
In any case the end of 2003 is most certainly upon us. I'm really enjoying bass and having a bit of time off. I'm headed to So Cal for a few days to see my brother Sean and hang with friends.
I may or may not update in the interim, but know that im thinking about ya ;)
BGSU defeats NU 28-24.
We suck again.
The only thing left to say is: Where in this nation of states is one called Bowling Green?
Off to comedy and chinese food. A full Phoenix review to come :)
And how better to celebrate this landmark moment in Jeremyround.com history than to discuss the sexuality of Hobbits.
After over 10 hours of Lord of the Rings viewing over the past two years I have repeatedly come to the same conclusion, Hobbits are Gay.
Disclaimer: I do not mean for this theory to be offensive by any means, it is simply a thought I have arrived upon as a result of many hints that Peter Jackson (director) dropped throughout the trilogy.
The idea first crossed my mind at the "end" of the first film. I have referred to this moment time and again as "First love of Sam and Frodo." From holding hands to looking longingly in each others' eyes this was a far cry from a plutonic moment between halflings.
Another strong piece of evidence comes to us from the soundtrack. Jackson always elects to play romanticly charged ochestral pieces in these moments of "male bonding." As a student of film I can attest to the fact that the soundtrack often shapes the audiences' perception of character emotion. The juxtaposition of these songs with the hobbit scenes makes the audience feel a romantic tention between Sam and Frodo as well as Pippin and Merry.
If the wrestling around in bed at the end of The Return of the King did not convince you, I do not know what will. The Elf and Dwarf stayed out of that bed. Gandolf seemed amused by it all.
Instead of continuing with my long list of evidencial moments from these films let me try to deter an obvious axe to my theory. I do not mean to spoil the latest film, but Sam gets married at the end, and yes it is to a female hobbit. So most would say, look Jro, they can't be Gay, Sam is married now. I say Bah! Peter Jackson (I am talking to YOU), you have made it clear you feel a romantic tension exists between these characters. Sloppy to tie the films up with this sham! Shame sir, Shame on you! Even if it was in the screenplay, you threw your own twist on the piece and you need to be accountable for it. This supposed heterosexuality of Sam was not introduced till the very last moments of the trilogy. Ring destroyed, deserted on a rock, surrounded in lava, Sam confesses his long time love for some local hobbitess named Cotton something or other. What a shim sham! He spoke of her with loving tones ALMOST as strong as those with which he encouraged his Mr. Frodo to push on. And don't forget Frodo always called for "His Sam." He wasn't even willing to live on after his "friend" left him lonely by tying the knot with that Cotton lady.
From the bouquet catch at the end of the film by Pippin to the final kiss goodbye on Sam's forehead from none other than Frodo Baggins, Peter Jackson wants us to believe hobbits love each other more than just friends, not that there's anything wrong with that. But then again there were moments where I thought we were supposed to view these people as children. Why sexually charge these moments then? Was this in some way a theatrical shout out of support to Peter Jackson's not so distant cousin Michael?
And still more questions remain: Did the books have these overtones (I of course never read them)? Are hobbits, like leemurs, primarily a bisexual or homosexual people/creature? Is Gandolf a pedaphile? Is this the most irrelevant post of all time?
Either way its the 100th. Merry Christmas!
Very big news came down the pipe last evening. Viv will be unable to play and so we've been bumped up to HEADLINE the Red Devil Lounge on Monday January 19th. If you're warmblooded and live within 500 miles of this event, you BETTER BE THERE!!! It will be amazing, We Promise!!
Back to feeding the baby....
Christina Aguilera has decided to keep her clothing on in her newest video and I think this new strategy for her could prove to be a positive one. If I knew the name of the song I'd refer to it here. It's probably called Trust the Voice Within, or Look Inside Yourself, either way its a lovely ballad that shows off her true vocal range and the video is something else.
Let me give you a little background before I move forward with this point. During my time in film school, music videos were always held as the exception to every rule. The teachers would say something like, "Each cut needs to be motivated and meaningful, except in music videos. In music videos each shot on average lasts no longer than .8 seconds." Now when I first heard that I realized why MTV typically lead me to having accute headaches and occassional seizures (kidding of course).
Now lets talk about the exception to this rule. In Christina's new video (I call it new because I just saw it for the first time...It may be months old by now, but its My perspective 'cause its my website. Dig?) the camera never stops rolling. From start to finish we have a captivating dollying single shot crane filmed music video. Christina struggles from time to time with the lip-syncing of the words, but how refreshing and different to have a fluid motion throughout the piece. Even though I think I've only seen 3 music videos this year I feel comfortable handing the director and X-ina (as her site calls her) the covetted and semi-decadal JRo Music Video Award of Excellence and Achievement.
Congrats Xina and mystery director for your award for the song I don't know the name of. You should be proud of yourselves!
I'd also like to announce the nominations for song of the year. To be nominated I had to have liked the song tremendously and believe that it was released in the past year. Inaccuracy is perfectly alright as long as I believe what I am saying.
Drumroll......
The nominees for excellence in the creation of a song 2003 are:
1. Dave Matthews - Some Devil
2. Seal - Waiting for You
3. Jason Mraz - The Remedy
4. Outkast - Hey Ya!
5. Maroon 5 - Through with You
6. Barenaked Ladies - Upside Down
If you have not heard one of these songs I suggest you go find them. They are all amazing accomplishments. Enjoy.
I am your neighbor.
Lets just say things in Phoenix heated up in a hurry. With the arrival of my family yesterday as well as the connecting with a family friend for evening plans last night, I am everything but bored as of this moment.
Skyharbor. 5pm, Monday Night. Security checkpoint. Sara, Alex, and Lisa arrive. Sara, 4 1/2 (by her own proclamation), loves singing, making cake, playing tricks on people, and hates shots. Alex, 5 months old, smiles occassionally, kicks often, and drools. Lisa, their mother, warm, funny, and as kind as they come. Aunt Judy and Uncle Jerry instantly have become Grandma and Grandpa and even I have taken on the title Uncle for the week. I make a promise to Sara that we will go to the movies and Chuckee Cheese's in the morrow. She says, "Jeremy there's a monster behind you." Before I even have a chance to examine this bold claim, "Tricked you silly!" A dangerous trickster indeed.
Phone rings. New number. I'm in the car, so I don't answer. Voice mail 10 minutes later. Family friend. Invites me out to join in the ASU (arizona state) scene. I gladly accept figuring staying up past 9:30pm would be good for me. ASU lived up to its party school rep and then some. Everyone is friendly, drinks are flowing and cheap, and the scene is packed even during winter break. Not a disappointment. The 5-0's were out in super force so many people were sent home in cuffs for the night. Being a law abiding citizen, such was not my fate. Nonetheless it was a bit intimidating and gave the night a bitter overtone. A shame. I was about to give Tempe my nod for a top ten college town, but now I may have to reconsider. Either way thanks for a fun time!
A new role to play today. Uncle Jeremy. Off we went to Chuckee Cheeses. All of the sudden I was conscious of people observing me and my "neice." What did they think our relationship was? Did they think I was a single dad? Was I doing everything the right way? I couldn't be sure. I had to answer tough questions like, where does Chuckee go when the show stops. Is he real? Who made our pizza? Does he know me? Other challenges and highlights included taking her to the men's restroom and assisting in the process (eeek...). Climbing up into the ceiling jungle gym was a new physical challenge that I do not think I will recover from anytime soon. Then we were off to The Cat in the Hat. Sara wants you all to know that we went to the "moomooomooomooooooviee Theatre...And then I'm gonna do my letter game." I don't really know what she's talking about but she would really like to play so I'm going to sign off.
I dont think I'm ready to be a dad quite yet!
Merry Xmas
So slowly but surely I'm getting adjusted to vacation. I'm still struggling to not be constantly productive but I figure a few more days of relaxing and freedom will really get me into Winter Break mode.
Tomorrow my cousins arrive. That should spice things up a bit! I'm looking forward to meeting baby Alex and spending some quality time with Sara as well as their parents :)
Anyway, I really do not have much to report. I'm working on a few new songs and I'm taking it easy. I'll write something better later this week.
Happy Hannukah,
jro
A wonderful tradition began on June 27, 2002. Gabe and I began celebrating the end of the work week by a warlike cry of Freedom and then we would sing songs centered around said theme. As we've grown more accustomed to our jobs and/or my work week has continued into the weekend, our proclamations of freedom have become few and far between. But yesterday all returned to form. Yes it was yesterday that I finally got over the hump. Fall is officially over!! FREEDOM.
So now that I'm on vacation in Phoenix I've gotten around to thinking a bit about the best vacations of all time. One such trip that popped into my mind is the legendary Senior Spring Break Cruise trip. From counting waffle houses on the way down, Jai Alai in Miami, SouthBeach, Kareoke, to winning the John Travolta dance contest on board the lovely Norweigian, this trip was jammed full of fun and good memories. The best part though, besides free room service and the on board casino that took me to town, was the fact that the cruise channel replayed the highlights of the trip throughout our journey. So my friend Steve who had mono at the time was forced to watch my victory in the dance contest he guessed well over 14 times. That's Entertainment!
Well its 9am, warm, and it's not raining. So I'm going outside! Somebody say hello to winter for me.
I'm not sure if it was the straight up doggy style grinding, the thwamping(the only real word to describe it) bass, or the 3:30pm start time, but this Dance certainly did not feature Brian Adams or Boyz II Men. My ears are still throbbing and I have nobody to blame but myself. You see today I was the DJ or perhaps a better title would have been, the guy the kids harrassed.
Now please correct me if I'm wrong but back in day (the 1990's) there was not much gender intermingling. When the slow songs came on it took all the nerve a young man could muster just to go up to that girl he liked (probably because she was a full foot taller than he). If she excepted his bold offer (3 out of 4 seemed to do so) then the "dance would begin. Now its odd we called this dancing because it was the stiffest and most awkward thing young people could do. With absolutely no bend in the arms or legs the pairing would slow dance by rocking together at a pace close to the beat. A really rare instance of erotica would feature a hug and even a soft cheek kiss at the end of your dance and that was really only if the girl had a crush or if the DJ said "champaign/snowball..."
What was it about those magical words? And whatever happened to them? Did the Clerks definition of snowball somehow taint the word enough to prevent it from being used around children expect in the rare instances of R. Kelly macking and Michael Jackson doing his thing? And why was a DJ using the word Champaign around kids anyway? Unless he was referring to one of the two cities that are home to the University of Illinois where he figured a majority of the kids would end up. So really he must have been thinking they would end up all sleeping with each other and that he had a responsibility to plant the seeds of partner rotation early on in their sexual development. Either way no "champaign snowball..." in No. Cal.
Well I miss my Richard Marx, my Snow, and my Blind Melon. So take that young 'uns.
So I ended up at the Kareoke event until all hours of the night. They asked me to stay longer and in that moment I knew I would be unable to get up and teach the next day. I begrudgingly excepted the overtime and continued playing everyone's favorite songs...I still have a headache.
But the reward has been worth the pain. In the few hours I've had today I've rested/relaxed, made some solid updates here at jeremyround.com, and gotten some cleaning and laundry done. Yes a true mental health holiday.
What updates you may be wondering. Well now you can purchase from me without the hassle of writing a check and sending it via mail. In fact you can use your credit card or checking account and buy directly from Jeremyround.com with the help of PayPal, my new pal. So take advantage. I wish my favorite artist was so fan friendly.
Tonight, Jon and I continue the band's search for a quality rhythm section. We are meeting a couple different guys tonight and discussing the project with them. Either way by the time Friday rolls around we should know who the 5th member of Nameless will be. Yes Nameless is the name of the band until later when Jon and I are in the car together...We'll have about 45 new names by the time tonight is over.
Its beginning to look a lot like VACATION. I cannot wait. Today has been just a little taste of what freedom feels like. I can finally get to write a bit, read a bit, and not have to be anywhere. A little Jro time.
Loyal readers, I implore you. Please link friends to the site. Let them know if you like the music. Encourage them to purchase or at least come out to shows. Everyone is working hard and purchases keep the project energized and driven. Thanks. Much love. Jro and the RR Family. (am i becoming schitzo?)
Let's get one thing straight. I am not ignoring you, nor neglecting this site. I simply have not had the required time to write an entry that would be both entertaining and that would adhere to the high level of quality required of blog here at jro.com (yeah right).
Well I'm back....And I'm ready to let you know, I can really shake it down.
Noteworthy updates:
Friday I was a moonlighter. I subbed a different class than normal so I had the joy of teaching history and language arts. Afterwards, admidst terrential downfall, I DJed the night away at the luxurious Hotel Monaco. Props to them. They were ultra kind and I was really impressed. So topping the Jro charts of San Francisco hotels, Hotel Monaco has taken the number one spot and looks tough to beat. The party wasn't too shabby either. Featuring a very young group that wished me to play a lengthy hip-hop block, this Friday event was my best to date. Transitions are becoming smoother, no mic feedback, quite a bit of audience interaction, and overall a great time.
Saturday Eric, Nichole, and I hit the ground running. I finally chopped my fro back down and picked up the very beginnings of holiday gifts. But it wasn't long before I was back in the Honda on my way to another DJing event. Despite being at The Four Seasons (an obvious highly ranked locale), this event was a total snoozer. I have no real highlights to share except that the average age of this group was somewhere between 40 and 50 and all they wanted was rap and r and b. Strange.
Sunday was super super music day. It began with our first official band rehearsal. The boys came prepared and it went super smoothly. We ran through all of my tunes and began work on some of Joel's. These guys are pros and its refreshing!
Afterwards I made my way to my new a cappella group rehearsal, Sabela (www.sabela.org). Their focus and energy were exciting and motivating. I think that this project will be a vocal reinvigoration and will expose me to some new styles of music. This crew is also super Pro.
So I've died and gone to music heaven. Everything is sounding good and progressing really well. However I've also died and gone to work hell. Tonight features my second straight weekday moonlighting. Though DJing is fun, I'm getting a bit exhausted.
Back to work....future's so bright i've gotta wear shades :)
Yeah, you heard me right. Welcome my new Yamaha Jazz bass to the family.
In other news finally caught up with Jerry after a month's hiatus. He has a great new studio in the Sunset. Should prove to be a valueable tool in the future.
Alright its already late and I have a moonlighting day tomorrow. Clock please slow down, please!!!
I'll be dreaming of 3rd's, 5th's, and octaves. Doom doom doom...ba da doom, da da doom.
Have just a minute to catch my breath here. My body and mind finally have caught up with the present no longer lost somewhere in the weekends' blur. But now my mind is racing with thoughts of the future.
Perhaps its the year ending or the rain that plagues our city, eitherway my mind is tomorrow. With so much to look forward to in the land of LA, who can blame me.
to be continued....
Sorry about that...duties of work called...
Back to (my plans for) the future:
So today I was thinking a ton about my future home in Los Angeles. I can just picture my 2-3 bedroom home. An amazing creative and state of the art home studio, a small but helpful office space, and a comfortable sizable bedroom.
With my new space and lack of employment upon moving I will start a second business. Well-Rounded Entertainment Group. Unlike RoundRecords which focuses on creating music and JRo products, Well-Rounded will focus on live entertainment. I plan to have a stable of artists for any sort of live entertainment need. From DJ's and Karaoke, to coverbands, a ccapella groups, to original music, Well-Rounded will be able to book any entertainment need. It will also serve as the booking agent for my original band and will most likely produce a competitive musicians show and a radio program, and perhaps an open mic.
So I will have RoundRecords where I will be producing/engineering other's music as well as my own. I will have Well-Rounded Entertainment Group. And when I'm not working on those, I will be doing voice over work, radio work, and freelance post-production.
This is a bit of a free thought entry, I know, but I'm trying to get it all down while its fresh in my mind. Sorry....So RoundRecords is Music Production, Publishing, freelance Sound Production. Well-Rounded is live entertainment, booking, etc.
Okay I think I've got it. Now I've gotta make it happen. First step, get a drummer on board up here for the new band. Already heard from over 8 so we should have the pick of the litter.
And I still owe you chicago pics...I'll take a look right now and post later tonight.
Hey if you've read this far, go you!
The photos for the most part were much ado about nothing. I got a great video of Rob singing Let it Be but I do not have a video editor on this machine and have no idea how to upload it for your pleasure. Perhaps Cap'n Design will Share with me a method. In the meanwhile enjoy what we have. And know that when you can see Rob better, he is a damn good looking gentleman. It is too bad he is obscurred (spelling?) by my guitar strap!

Alright first and foremost....The Band
So after a long and challenging search it appears the main players are in order. The lineup for the Band without a name is:
Joel Streeter - Rhythm Acoustic Guitar/Lead Vox
Jon Brandon - Lead Electric Guitar
Robin Bek - Keys and Vox
Jeremy Round - Bass and Lead Vox
A little bit about the crew. First off, clearly we are still missing our drummer. That search is still underway and may feature several different sit ins in the interim. Joel is a singer/songwriter who recently moved to San Francisco from DC to pursue music vigoriously. He writes well crafted Pop/Rock songs that have a diverse/ecletic sound and influence but he likens to Badly Drawn Boy. I find his music incredibly enjoyable and I am very excited to be playing on his tunes in the near future. Jon, who you should know by now, is a close friend and an amazing guitarist. He has been out in the bay area for over two years and has already been part of several different kinds of projects. It is difficult to categorize Jon's sound, so simply put, extremely versatile, tremendously creative, great energy and chops, and an invaluable member of the crew. Robin is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, guitar, keys, and bass. The top of his vocal range is incredibly impressive and his music knowledge is extensive. He sites Sting as one of his main influences and his songs often take on those sexy overtones.
And thus the Band without a name was born. Have suggestions? Please contact me with your ideas. A drummer looking for a project with great gigs lined up, a lot of talent on board, and a very committed group, look no further, contact me.
Alright, now onto my weekend. 4 events in 4 days meant moonlighting Thursday and Friday. So productivity and rest were fairly out of the question. Thursday I climbed aboard the Hornblower Bay Party Cruise. Beautiful ride and a great time. Definately the highlight of the weekend. Friday and Saturday were also corporate events. The rain made both somewhat hellish in loading in and out. Saturday I had a big scare because I misread the info sheet and arrived at the venue an hour late. But luckily the client had been misinformed and the cocktails were in a different room. Phew! Sunday was a beautiful wedding up in Marin Co. No one wanted to dance so I ended up playing the Hokey Pokey et al to entertain the children. A success....Anyway, long story short, a really tiring and fast weekend.
I'll tell you more about the book I read tomorrow and post Chicago photos. Also please notice all the new gigs up top....Yep thats right RED DEVIL LOUNGE BABY!!! And thats just the beginning.
Anyone have any thoughts on who I should vote for in the Mayorial Run-off? Help!
Hey folks.
Listen, I have to go to bed. I know, I know, I have been a really bad website owner. But listen, I was moonlighting Thursday and Friday, I worked tonight and I work tomorrow morning. I promise I will write the entry of all entries tomorrow night. I'll catch you up on the following topics:
The Band
Gigs
Tomcat in Love
The Haunted Mansion
DJing
Rain
Taking a friend to the Hospital
and so much more....
Come back soon!
Did I spell that right? I never am sure. It has been over a year and a half since I sang my last a capella song with Aural Fixation. Tonight I auditioned for a group here in San Francisco. Went well. I got very jazzed about the opportunity. Apparently I miss my group more than I thought. I'll keep you in the know.
Bed time
Seeing that the future of the Goodbye Project is promising today I filled out applications for ASCAP both as a writer and publisher. Yep, we're well on our way to the big bucks...Any day now...any minute...can't you feel it?
Okay so the step may be a bit premature, but no time like the present to get Royalties and Representation taken care of.
Off to pick up my DJ gear for my FOUR events this weekend....dear lord...
To Be Continued....
Ding Dong.
Yes?
UPS sir.
Be down in a minute.
And there he stood. He came equipped with his usual electronic clip board and brown uniform but this time he also had 5 boxes of CD's. 28lbs each. Thats 140lbs of Jeremy Round. We've got to move these units fast!
How we gonna do it? Well for starters I signed up for a million and a half things today as I previously described. Within a couple weeks The Goodbye Project will be digitally distributed, available online, available by money order, available on the black market, and just plain available. Also to protect its creative goodness it now possesses a Registered Copyright.
You'll also notice two more shows appeared. Woo hoo, they certainly did. And there will be lots more where those came from. So sit back, relax, and get ready to Jro. Yes I just made my pseudonymn into a verb, which I figure is alright considering my last name is an adjective to begin with.
Hey hey, how you all doin?
I am busy at work with getting the Goodbye Project out in as many ways as I can. I just signed up with several online distributors including one that I believe legally they don't want me to mention as of yet, but your clue is it starts with an "A" and its a river in South America. Also I'm shipping discs to CDBaby who will be selling them before the holidays are over, getting online reviews, and pretty much signing up for any and every opportunity available.
I'm overwhelmed but as Sandye said, if you put it out into the universe, something good is bound to come back. We'll see.
Band updates. So I have musicians that I am eager to work with. We are going to be getting together this Sunday. I do not want to mention names or tell you more until they have officially decided to be part of the band, but stay tuned, we're getting close.
Alright, back to work. Peace.
Shout out
From the moment I stepped on the moving walkway and half the neon of O'Hare was no longer aglow, I knew that it was going to be a long night/morning.
Needless to say its 3am, I have finally gotten home and I'm going to bed.
Thank you to all those who were part of one of the greatest trips to Chicago I've had in a long time!
